Marcus Holmes is co-director of the Social Science Research Methods Center (SSRMC), which houses the Political Psychology and International Relations (PPIR) lab, which he directs. He is also Chair of the Department of Government. His research and teaching interests are in international security, international relations theory, foreign policy, and diplomacy. Holmes has published, or has articles forthcoming, in International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, International Studies Review, Journal of Theoretical Politics, Journal of Global Security Studies, and other leading journals. His monograph, Face-to-Face Diplomacy (Cambridge University Press, 2018) won the 2018 Best Book on Diplomacy award from the Diplomatic Studies Section of the International Studies Association. He earned his doctorate from The Ohio State University and has previously taught at Georgetown University, The Ohio State University, and Fordham University.
